Greetings!,

Well, that certainly was an amazing race! As a team you created 3736 pillowcases for Ryan's Case for Smiles - absolutely incredible! Some of them started their journey to Children's Hospital half way through the race - a very good thing, as that many definitely won't fit in a single car! Know that no matter how many pillowcases you made, you made a huge impact in the lives of young patients. We award prizes for the race in several categories. Congratulations to the Hearts and Hands guild for creating the most pillowcases as a group, to Linda B. for the most by an individual and to the Straight Stitchers for our favorite pillowcase (you can imagine trying to select that one from 3736...). We have small thank yous for those who stitched for the event - be sure to remind us you were part of the effort when you next visit. And again, you are incredible - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Project Jelly Roll Day
Saturday ~ September 16th
12:00pm ~ Jelly Roll Quilt Show and Tell
1:00pm-4:00pm Jelly Roll Stitching Session

Moda's first Jelly Rolls came out back in 2006 - who could have imagined the influence they would have on the quilt world? Moda has decided to mark their impact with a special day, and we are "all in". Sew A Jelly Roll Day begins with show and tell in the shop. We would love to see what you have already made from 2 ½" strips (of course there will be door prizes and goodies to mark the moment!). Show and tell will be followed by a Jelly Roll stitching session. During the session we will share two splendid Jelly Roll quilt pattern sheets and demonstrate how each quilt is constructed. We know you have rolls hidden away in your sewing space - why not join us and put them to work?!

Fee: Show and tell - free (pre-registration required by 9/14/17), Stitching session $20.00 (pre-registration required by 9/13/17) Please note - there is a special price for And Sew On subscribers for this session - ask in the shop for details.
We are marking September, National Sewing Month, with a small display of vintage machines and machine attachments (we tried to include some we have never shared before). It really is fun to take a closer look at pieces that were the predecessors to the remarkable machines we use today. We've made a wonderful goodie basket, featuring modern quilting tools and fabrics, which someone visiting during the vintage machine display will win - we will draw a name for the basket as we take down the display at the end of the day on the 16th. Hope you get a chance to stop in - don't forget to fill out an entry.

Another quick machine note ~ If you haven't had your sewing machine professionally cared for in years, you will be happy to know that Jeff (yes, of Jeff's Sewing Station) is back in our area. You bring your machine to Quilters Corner and it magically reappears in great shape (ok, maybe not by magic, but Jeff is certainly a machine wizard!). Stop in or call for all the details.
We just received a new supply of Lil' Buddy pressing boards. The petite handmade boards are practical, solid, stable and just plain old cute. The wood surface of each is complimented by a small, heat reflective mat and a custom, reversible, cover. They are sized for a regular or mini iron, making them perfect for use in your sewing room or at classes or retreats. Lil' Buddy $39.95
We are hard at work on our fall and early winter class schedule. But there is no need to worry about being bored at the moment. You may not have noticed that our summer schedule covered much of September - there are currently great classes available. Consider joining us for ~

Machine Binding
Kathie Hudak
Skill Level: All
September 12          Tuesday ~ 11:00am - 1:30pm

Are painful fingers making traditional binding application techniques way too difficult? There is another way! Kathie will share the totally "by machine" method she has developed and used on numerous show quilts, as well as all the other pieces she completes. The finished product has met with show judges approval - now it is your turn to give it a test! Bring a small quilted piece to class and you will learn to work this step totally by machine.
Fee: $18.00

Outstanding Owls
Jane Zowacki
Skill Level: All
September 16          Saturday ~ 11:00am - 1:00pm

Whooooo wants to make some applique owls? Outstanding Owls for Applique is a fun book by Darcy Ashton with so many different owl patterns- you will have a hard time deciding which one to try first. The book has patterns for realistic owls, holiday owls dressed like Santa, owls holding quilt blocks in their beaks, owls made of fabric selvages and floral print owls. You can make your owls from batiks or regular quilting cottons, bright fabrics or more realistic colors. The patterns are very versatile and great for both beginner and more experienced quilters. Fusible web makes the applique quick and fun. You can make one owl block for a wall hanging or make a twelve block quilt. The possibilities are endless!
Fee: $18.00
New fabrics are arriving at an amazing clip. It would take page, after page, after page to describe them all! Be sure to look for Blue Rhapsody, Cosmopolitan by Jane Dixon, Shibori II, Clotted Creams from Di Ford, Timeless from Jo Morton, Florabelle from Joel Dewberry, Tula's Spirit Animal, Dream Big from Hoffman, Reef from Elizabeth Hartman, Seaside from Stof and all the others when you next visit. The selection is amazing at the moment - I know we have ones you need (yes, need!).

I know I said I wasn't going to be able to describe all the new fabrics, but I have to quickly mention Anthology's Cube Bori fabric (sorry, I just can't stop myself...). The incredible 45" x 45" hand dyed works of art are not to be missed. When the folded, dyed fabric is opened intricate symmetric patterns are revealed. They would make spectacular centerpieces for a large quilt, could be cut and pieced into a striking quilt or framed and hung as artwork! A new group arrived this week - the selection at the moment is fantastic - don't miss them! $13.95 per piece
